I used to live in Los Angeles in my early 20’s. This was way before I knew how to cook and I survived with frozen meals and takeout. I used to make a mean pot of IKEA meatballs back in the day, for real guys. It was pretty bad, so I spent a lot of days watching The Food Network, and a lot of nights ordering takeout.Continue Reading
Making homemade roasted pumpkin seeds is something I have been doing since I was a kid. My dad was always really involved with the pumpkin carving activities and always had us save our seeds in a big colander as we cleaned out the gooey pumpkin guts from our soon to be Jack’O’Lanterns. He would clean and soak the seeds, dry them out and toast them in the oven for a simple, tasty and healthy snack!Continue Reading

Every day that I pick my daughter up from school and we walk through the front door, the first thing she says to me is “Can I have a snack?”. Sound familiar? And then there is me, loaded with her school work, and backpack, my purse and my bags from the day I feel pretty overwhelmed with the request and huff, “Can I put everything down first?”.Continue Reading
Dairy is a staple in my family. Big surprise there, right? I love cheese and ice cream and milkshakes. Yogurt? Heavenly! Sour cream? Pile it on! I use milk in smoothies and mashed potatoes; I use it in gravies and sauces. I cook with milk every week and most of my favorite recipes contain it.
But, I rarely find myself reaching for a tall glass of it. There, I said it; transparency is best right?Continue Reading
It’s officially fall! Yay! It’s about time right? It seemed like summer would never end. Fall just screams sweaters, boots, trips to the pumpkin patch, scarves and pretty much all things caramel and pumpkin spice. You know, basic white girl stuff.
But this caramel corn? It’s anything but basic. It’s heavenly. It’s sweet and salty and lightly spiced and it’s pretty much the most fantastic thing you could ever want to devour and let your guilt blow away in the rustling leave of fall. You know why? Because fall, that’s why.Continue Reading
Here’s a fun story for today… I once made this dip for a family BBQ. I brought it, and told no one what it was other than “Cookie Dough Dip” and served it with some graham crackers. At first my cousins were hesitant, but eventually they dived in and before long the bowl was clean. Everyone wanted the recipe and when I told them the “secret ingredient” they all were totally shocked. They couldn’t believe that cookie dough could be “healthy”.
A similar thing happened while I was preparing this to share with you all. My daughter was hanging around the kitchen, watching me make this dip. It looked a lot like cookie dough, it tasted a lot like cookie dough, but she was hesitant. I let her lick the spoon, and her eyes got wide and she grinned from ear to ear. I handed her an apple slice with a big scoop and she devoured it! She wanted her own bowl, she wanted to eat cookie dough for breakfast. Then I told her what was in it… Are you ready to find out too?Continue Reading
I know, I know, ANOTHER cupcake post? For some reason I have been tasked with baking a lot of cupcakes for various events and parties lately and since this blog chronicles our life, I take every advantage possible to share what we’re doing if I think you might enjoy it too.
Blogger life, amirite?Continue Reading
My sister just recently had a birthday and all she wanted was cake. She’s currently breastfeeding her son, who has a dairy and soy allergy and so she’s really limited on what she can and can’t eat and most cakes are totally out of the question. Dairy and soy is literally in everything! So I promised her something delicious and set out to create her a cupcake she could eat without stress.
Aren’t I just the best sister ever? Continue Reading

National Ice Cream Month is still here, so I thought I would squeak out at least one more fun ice cream post before the end of the month. Totally taking advantage of the built in content ideas here, ya know? Yesterday we had to stop into Albertsons “real quick” to grab a few things.Continue Reading

Y’all, I’ve got a sweet tooth something fierce! And I just recently found out that July is National Ice Cream Month, and I know it’s almost the end of July but I didn’t let that stop me! I mean, come on! Ice cream? Hello!? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; I think we need more food and treats on sticks. Who’s with me?!Continue Reading
