Making homemade roasted pumpkin seeds is something I have been doing since I was a kid. My dad was always really involved with the pumpkin carving activities and always had us save our seeds in a big colander as we cleaned out the gooey pumpkin guts from our soon to be Jack’O’Lanterns. He would clean and soak the seeds, dry them out and toast them in the oven for a simple, tasty and healthy snack!Continue Reading

National Ice Cream Month is still here, so I thought I would squeak out at least one more fun ice cream post before the end of the month. Totally taking advantage of the built in content ideas here, ya know? Yesterday we had to stop into Albertsons “real quick” to grab a few things.Continue Reading
San Diego finally got the memo that it’s winter, so because of this amazing feat of weather wizardry, I decided that for this week’s Sunday Supper I was going to make a super simple, Pot Roast. But not just any pot roast a Rustic Paleo Pot Roast, loaded with lots of root veggies, herbs and the most tender meat you could ever have. Really. I’ve made a lot of pot roasts since being married to Charlie, because he is the ultimate Meat&Potatoes guy, but never one as delcious and healthy as this one. Throw away all your preconceived notions of needing a crock pot and some seasoning packets, because this one is pure heaven. Forget the artificial flavors and leave the chemicals at the door.Continue Reading

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial. Let me let you in on a little secret. I am a sucker for cool kitchen gadgets. I even have an entire pinboard dedicated to them. I wish I had the kitchen space for all the cool gadgets I want, but sadly I do not.
That’s why I love this little thing, the Superswizz Spiral Slicer. A handy dandy little gadget that lets you turn any vegetable into awesome long skinny “noodles” to use in your recipes. As delicious as pasta is, sometimes I just don’t want that really filling feeling I get after eating it. Plus, eating veggies like noodles is really kind of fun and makes me feel fancy. The second I saw this thing, I knew I needed to have it.Continue Reading
You know what one of my favorite things to do in the summer? Canning! It’s fun and it’s a get way to preserve all the great veggies that you can’t eat before they go bad.
This pickle recipe is a HUGE hit! Even my sister’s boyfriend, who HATES pickles, loves these! I love them so much, they were appetizers at my wedding. They are crunchy, fresh and super delicious! Plus, it’s loaded with lots of fresh ingredients and last in the fridge for up to 6 months, so you can have fresh crunchy pickles all the time!
It’s a great recipe for summer, because most of these ingredients are nice and ripe in the summer! In fact, the dill and little peppers came right from my little garden!Continue Reading
You know what? I love chocolate. I crave it all the time. Funny thing, there was a (very small) time in my life, when I didn’t care for chocolate AT ALL. Crazy right? I got off the bandwagon real quick. My stepdaughter doesn’t really like chocolate either, but she’s got an excuse because she’s only 8. The 2 year old? She could pound a pound of the stuff before you could blink. Odd…
Anyway, I decided that since I can’t give it up, I need to learn how to have it in a healthier way, something that is so rich and delectable that I could have one piece and be done for the week. How’s that sound?Continue Reading
My tomatoes are starting to turn red, y’all!
I love having my little container garden on my patio, even if I don’t own literal “land”, I can still grow some sustainable deliciousness for my family. I’ve got all sorts of herbs and a few fruits, veggies and flowers. It’s actually sort of amazing how much stuff I have in so little space.
But back to those tomatoes. They are all ripening up and I had no idea what to do with them, until my husband reminded me that I make killer bruschetta, and I just received a package in the mail of Organic Olive Oil from Emile Noel Artisan Oils. The kind of oil that you want to make the highlight of your meal, not just cook some food in it.Continue Reading
Feeding a family of 4 gets expensive, I can only imagine what feeding a family of 8 or 10 would be like! I try my best to plan our meals ahead of time to save money, but it can be hard. My husband is not one for leftovers, so I often have to creatively disguise them into new meals.
One of my favorite ways to do that is taking a whole chicken and cooking it in my rotisserie. That bad boy is a life saver!
