I used to live in Los Angeles in my early 20’s. This was way before I knew how to cook and I survived with frozen meals and takeout. I used to make a mean pot of IKEA meatballs back in the day, for real guys. It was pretty bad, so I spent a lot of days watching The Food Network, and a lot of nights ordering takeout.Continue Reading

Every year for Thanksgiving, it seems as though I am tasked with bringing appetizers. Most of my family has NO IDEA what I do for a living, so I often skate by without having to be in charge of something important like the turkey. I’m good, but I don’t know if I’m TURKEY FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY GOOD, ya know?
So I graciously accept my appetizer task, and try to bring something delicious that keeps everyone very, very happy while the kitchen wafts out the teasing aromas of Thanksgiving. With my family, a big ol’ bag of chips and onion dip would keep them totally content and happy, but on big holidays I try to bring my A game.Continue Reading
Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday ever. I love everything about it, from decorating my house, putting up the tree, walking through Christmas lights, making hot cocoa and especially Christmas baking. If it could be Christmas time for 2 months, I would be 100% OK with that. So while Abbey and I were out running errands today, we stopped by our local Hallmark Gold Crown store and picked up a few goodies!Continue Reading
Thanksgiving is my husband’s favorite holiday. He loves to sit with the menfolk and eat and drink and eat some more and maybe have a glass of scotch and share a cigar with the boys. It’s their “Man Tradition”. Sounds lovely right? While us women in the family are busily prepping and chopping and dicing and cooking and plating and refilling everything THE ENTIRE DAY. And then we get to clean while the husband hurriedly packs the car and always forget something. It’s my least favorite holiday.
Okay, okay maybe not least, but definitely not on the top of my list… amirite ladies?Continue Reading
Happy Monday Lovelies! I am going to tell you a story today about the most delicious snack I ever made to brighten your day a bit…
It was a few years ago, before marriage and kids and I was in LA having dinner with my good friend, Melissa. We went to this little gourmet cheese shop and ate the most crazy delicious grilled cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. We walked around the shop after dinner and checked out all the fun snacks and libations they had to offer and I saw something; Bacon Caramel Corn.Continue Reading
Making homemade roasted pumpkin seeds is something I have been doing since I was a kid. My dad was always really involved with the pumpkin carving activities and always had us save our seeds in a big colander as we cleaned out the gooey pumpkin guts from our soon to be Jack’O’Lanterns. He would clean and soak the seeds, dry them out and toast them in the oven for a simple, tasty and healthy snack!Continue Reading
You know what goes insanely well with chocolate? Red wine. I’ve found myself sipping a glass of red wine and gnawing on a hunk of dark chocolate on several occasions. I’ve even had Chocolate Syrup infused with red wine, drizzled over ice cream at a winery in Napa. That was a pretty amazing end to a wine tasting. I think about that red wine chocolate syrup a lot.Continue Reading
I woke up this morning chilly. To most of the rest of the country, this is not a big deal, but to us down in the lower southwest corner of the states, the fact that there is finally a fall chill in the air is the best news ever. Summer tends to hang out awfully long around here, and it’s starting to actually feel like fall. So I decided to make some soup for dinner, because I am a big fan of soup as a meal. I am not talking a bunch of broth with some noodles, but a nice thick hearty Tuscan Chicken and Gnocchi Soup, loaded with loads of fresh veggies.Continue Reading

Every day that I pick my daughter up from school and we walk through the front door, the first thing she says to me is “Can I have a snack?”. Sound familiar? And then there is me, loaded with her school work, and backpack, my purse and my bags from the day I feel pretty overwhelmed with the request and huff, “Can I put everything down first?”.Continue Reading
