So maybe you’ve noticed, but the holidays are here. And since the holidays are here, I bet you’re going to be getting invited to a lot of parties, or at the very least, hosting some of your own. I don’t know about you, but most holiday parties I go to are potluck, which means you’re on the hook for bringing something and that can getting pretty time consuming and expensive if you’re popular – and I know you are!Continue Reading
Making homemade roasted pumpkin seeds is something I have been doing since I was a kid. My dad was always really involved with the pumpkin carving activities and always had us save our seeds in a big colander as we cleaned out the gooey pumpkin guts from our soon to be Jack’O’Lanterns. He would clean and soak the seeds, dry them out and toast them in the oven for a simple, tasty and healthy snack!Continue Reading
I woke up this morning chilly. To most of the rest of the country, this is not a big deal, but to us down in the lower southwest corner of the states, the fact that there is finally a fall chill in the air is the best news ever. Summer tends to hang out awfully long around here, and it’s starting to actually feel like fall. So I decided to make some soup for dinner, because I am a big fan of soup as a meal. I am not talking a bunch of broth with some noodles, but a nice thick hearty Tuscan Chicken and Gnocchi Soup, loaded with loads of fresh veggies.Continue Reading
It’s officially fall! Yay! It’s about time right? It seemed like summer would never end. Fall just screams sweaters, boots, trips to the pumpkin patch, scarves and pretty much all things caramel and pumpkin spice. You know, basic white girl stuff.
But this caramel corn? It’s anything but basic. It’s heavenly. It’s sweet and salty and lightly spiced and it’s pretty much the most fantastic thing you could ever want to devour and let your guilt blow away in the rustling leave of fall. You know why? Because fall, that’s why.Continue Reading
When will the heat end?! It’s been upwards of the 100’s here in Southern California, so we’ve been living in the AC and keeping away from the oven. But last week, there was a HUGE sale on pork roasts and I got a hankering for Pulled Pork. Who doesn’t love some smokey, tender meat, sandwiched with tangy BBQ sauce and caramelized onions. For real y’all – sometimes that southerner comes out in me somethin’ fierce.Continue Reading
My sister just recently had a birthday and all she wanted was cake. She’s currently breastfeeding her son, who has a dairy and soy allergy and so she’s really limited on what she can and can’t eat and most cakes are totally out of the question. Dairy and soy is literally in everything! So I promised her something delicious and set out to create her a cupcake she could eat without stress.
Aren’t I just the best sister ever? Continue Reading

National Ice Cream Month is still here, so I thought I would squeak out at least one more fun ice cream post before the end of the month. Totally taking advantage of the built in content ideas here, ya know? Yesterday we had to stop into Albertsons “real quick” to grab a few things.Continue Reading

There is this amazing little pub near our house that serves the most delicious fried pickles you’ve ever had. My family craves them and we end up going and spending a ton of money on food just to eat this crispy, salty, tangy bites of heaven. I remember one time we were there my husband said to me, “I wish you could make these at home…” and it got the gears in my head turning. Why couldn’t I make these at home? They were just slices of pickles fried in a corn meal coating! So, I got to work…Continue Reading

Here in San Diego it’s been INSANELY hot – I have no idea what’s going on. A storm is coming from the west and bringing in this overcast blah that makes the days really humid and sticky, and it feels like there is NO RELIEF at all from it. So we did what needed to be done and headed to my mom’s house. At any given time in the summer, you can find a ton of people at my mom’s house enjoying the cool pool and warm sunny weather, and it was no exception the other day. I was craving something fresh and spicy, so I brought over all the ingredients to make White Tex Mex Chicken Chili for everyone!Continue Reading
There is a restaurant here in San Diego called The Fish Market, that is an institution. My family has been eating there for years and recently the downtown location suffered a devastating grease fire that burned the top floor and caused over a million dollars in damage. Suffice to say, the restaurant is currently closed. I am not much of a fish fan, but I still loved going there for their Warm Spinach Salad with Kalamata Olives and Feta – which I think is a testament to that fact that I would brave a fish restaurant just for a salad. It’s that good. So I wanted to share the recipe to make this at home, since I won’t be visiting there for a bit and I might need a fix.
