So you read our post about Disneyland at Halloween, and you saw that adorable handmade Tinkerbell costume that Abbey wore all night, and maybe you’re wondering where I got her shoes, and how I got them to be functional AND adorable. Well I’m going to tell you, because I love you! And this wouldn’t be much of a blog if I kept those DIY secrets to myself, right?Continue Reading

If you’ve been around with me long enough, you know that;
A. I DIY anything I don’t want to pay full price for and,
2. I love a bit of snark and humor.
So I wanted to create something that sort of embodied those things into one pretty cool thing – a Tie Dye Color Melt Workout Tank! That’s right – I work out (sometimes) and I like to look totally amazing and awesome when I do, because is there any other way to be?

I am a HUGE nerd. Geek. Dork. Whatever you want to call me, let’s have at it. I love me some Doctor Who, and Star Wars and over here at the Blevins house we’re big fans of Marvel. So when Guardians of the Galaxy came out last Tuesday , we rushed to Walmart of pick it up on the BluRay DVD combo pack. That way we can have family movie night on the big screen with the BluRay in the living room, or the kids can watch it on DVD in their room. Me, being the nerd I am, decided that I needed to get all crafty and do some cosplay makeup for the character of Gamora. She’s got green skin, so I decided to greenify myself (again!) for the sake of art.Continue Reading

So while the rest of the entire country is in what we like to call “boot season”, I am in Southern California with 80 degree weather (not to brag or anything, folks with snow already) and we are still in flip flops. Which means that around here is almost a requirement to have a standing appointment at the nail salon for your bi-monthly pedicure. Well, being a mom I don’t really get those anymore. No time to sit and relax in quiet for an hour to have someone sand my feet down and make them look soft and pretty for 2 weeks. Nope. I have kids. And I respect those women too much to bring my screaming darling snowflakes with me to the salon and ruin their alone time away from their kids.Continue Reading

Halloween is right around the corner, and if you’re still stumped for ideas on what to be for the night, why not take a page out of my book and become a fish out of water for the night as a stunning mermaid!? My kids and I always do theme costumes each year because it is so fun to dress up as a big group! This year, we chose mermaids because, well do you really need a reason to be a mermaid for the evening? Read on for the tutorial!Continue Reading
Last night I decided to paint my nails and get myself ready for Halloween. I decided to do a very simple blood drip on a white background because, spooky and awesome. And cute… in a “you’ve got blood drips on your nails” sort of way. It’s sort of creepy and macabre, but I like it and it’s Halloween. So I decided to search the internet (and by internet, I mean Pinterest) and find you the 13 of my favorite Halloween nails out there. Get creative, get excited and get your nail polish out and ready.Continue Reading
Firstly, I am completely obsessed with Coconut Oil and use it every day in not only cooking, but in my beauty routine too! If you don’t already have a tub of it, stock up! Thera Vita makes an AMAZING brand of Coconut Oil called Paradise, that I highly recommend. It’s organic, non-bleached, non-deodorized, hexane and chemical free. It’s also cold pressed, which makes for an amazing creamy product. It’s just fantastic.
Aside from being a healthy alternative to butter or oil in recipes, coconut oil is an amazing beauty product for hair, skin and nails! Below I’ve compiled a few things you can do with coconut oil that might surprise you.Continue Reading
Once I decided to cut out a lot of the artificial stuff in our house, I knew I needed to create a natural medicine cabinet. I asked a lot of my crunchier mama friends what some good staples were, and was beraged with tons of things. My natural product shopping list got pretty huge. Slowly, but surely, I started adding elements into my arsenal, and eventually I had a pretty decent little haul. One of the best buys I’ve come across has been Shea Butter. I love how versatile it is, the moisturizing properties of it, and how it makes everything just come together better.Continue Reading

I love my tiny little garden on my balcony. I have always wanted a big huge farm, but alas living in an apartment right now is not going to allow that. I few years ago I started a small little balcony garden, and it’s been flourishing ever since. I love my small space out there, loaded with all sorts of herbs, flowers and veggies, but I hate what it does to my hands. I’ve tried lots of different things, but it’s usually the options are so rough on my skin. Digging in the dirt, repotting seedlings and pruning thorn bushes can really get messy. So I decided I needed a better option besides the man soap my husband uses after he works on cars, and I created a gardener’s hand scrub using epsom salts, kosher salt, essential oils and Palmolive Coconut Butter Soft Touch Soap. It’s like a little mini spa treatment in my kitchen sink. I love finding other uses for dish soap!Continue Reading
