Cash is the best gift. Seriously. When my mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I just told her cash. Gift cards are great too, but cash allows you to use it on anything you need. I had planned on spending my Christmas Cash on a brand new camera, but my amazing husband surprised me with it as my Christmas gift! (Isn’t he the best!?) So with a nice chunk of change for Christmas in my hands I headed to Sephora because I had a list of new pretties I had been pining over.
I am a HUGE FAN of Jaclyn Hill on YouTube, and love to take her recommendations for what to buy. She hasn’t failed me yet. The last time I went out and bought face products was in the summer, so all my colors were warm and totally off of my skin for my current tones. I also needed some new concealer, powder and something to help my combination skin get back to being balanced. I needed a total overhaul, and I wanted to try a few new products too.
I waited about a week to post this so I would have adequate time to try everything a few times and report back to you guys. So let’s get to it!
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation
I have been a HUGE fan of Make Up For Ever since I was a teen. While everyone at my school was getting their makeup done by MAC and Clinique for formal dances, I was at MUFE like a boss. When I was younger and had young skin, their Face and Body Foundation was my go to, but now I need a bit more coverage. I had been using the Mat Velvet foundation but I’ve wanted to try the Ultra HD for awhile now. I went with a slightly more cool tone since winter is my palest season. So far I have nothing bad to say about it. I love how sheer it feels even though I get a medium to full coverage – and it’s buildable if I need a bit more coverage too.
Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix
I’ve been pretty ride or die for MAC Fix+ as my setting spray, but I went out on a limb on a recommendation from Gina (my girl at Sephora who totally helped me out!) and I really love this. I use it to spray on my brushes before application of foundation, and to set my face at the end, and it’s just lovely.
GLAMGLOW POWERCLEANSE Daily Dual Cleanser
My skin has been CRAZY lately y’all. Dry patchy spots with oh so much oil build up and I really have no idea what’s going on. I moisturize and cleanse and it still goes crazy. I just needed something to handle it all and I am a HUGE fan of GlamGlow – seriously, if you’ve got the $39 to spend, grab one of their cleansers. I got PowerCleanse, which is a double duty cleanser that’s perfect for my combo mess up in here. You pump the cleansing mud and the cleansing oil and mix together on your fingers. It cleans my skin and melts off my makeup, but doesn’t leave me feeling tight and dry like other cleansers I’ve tried. I’m a fan for life.
This new lip product is something I’ve seen around Instagram and YouTube and I’ve wanted to try it for awhile. I am a HUGE fan of matte lipsticks and a lot of the formulas can be really drying. I’ve needed a good lip scrub and this gift combo is a HUGE savings. Seperately the scrub and balm retail for $24 each, but this gift set was only $39! The scrub is amazing! Super moisturizing while also exfoliating my lips beautifully. This time of year my lips are hurting for some TLC, so this was definitely a good buy in my book. Plus they smell and taste really good – not that I ate it, but when scrubbing your lips it’s not uncommon for a bit of product to get in your mouth. Pepperminty heaven.
Originally I went into Sephora looking for the NEW Ultra HD Concealer by MUFE, but it wasn’t out yet, so I grabbed the Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer instead. I was a HARDCORE fan of the MAC Pro LongWear concealer prior to this, and all I can say is WOW. I loved the MAC, but with my older skin I would get a crepey look after a few hours of wear. This is seriously like wearing nothing and I don’t notice any crepey eyes at all! You guys, if you’re looking for a new concealer, try this! My only complaint is I wish they had more colors and tones.
beautyblender blendercleanser solid Sponge and Brush Cleanser
I love my beautyblender. Seriously, I’ve tried so many other makeup sponges and just nothing compares to it. Other sponges are too hard or dense and I just can’t get the same effect as I do with my beautyblender. So grabbing this cleanser was a no brainer. It’s specially formulated to clean the sponge material without cracking or tearing so your beautyblender lasts longer. I came home and the first thing I did after snapping photos was cleanse all my brushes and sponges. I thought they were clean before, but I was getting old makeup out of brushes I swore were already clean. I will never use another brush cleanser again.
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
I’ve used a silicone based face primer for years and had decent results, but I decided to splurge on this mineral primer from Hourglass and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. If you’re oily like me, this is AMAZING! It makes my face feel matte, and helps my foundation STAY PUT ALL DAY. I grabbed the “trial” one to start, but I’ll be splurging on the big one the next time I go shopping!
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
This was my splurge. I have had this on my list of “MUST HAVE’S” for months and months and was waiting until I used up the last of my setting powder before grabbing this. It’s AMAZING guys. Really, the best and totally worth the cash to grab it. Don’t waste your money looking for dupes for this, cuz you’ll waste your money. Just buy it and don’t look back, for real. It’s soooooo soft and finely milled, it’s like wearing nothing. And it sets my under eye beautifully, as well as setting my face and helping me stay matte and stay put all day. I like a bit of shimmer and shine, but I want to be the one in charge of that!
I’ve got a few online orders coming in soon, so hold on for the eye and lip products!
