This past Sunday, Abbey and I had a mommy & me date, apple picking in Julian! It’s this adorable little town that time forgot up in the mountains, about an hour from our house. It was a hot day, but I also knew that because of the drought, apple picking season was coming to a close. A less busy and more “on it” mom, would have gone about a month ago (note to self for next year) and I forgot, and we’ve been so filled up with social engagements that this was the only day we had left.
We packed a lunch and headed up the mountain to Volcan Valley Family Farms for their U-Pick Apples.
If you’ve never been apple picking, I highly suggest going, it’s a fun little day trip and you get to come home with lots of delicious apples! I will be sharing quite a few apple recipes in the next couple weeks because we now have about 15 lbs of apples to get through!
Since it was the last day of the season, the farm was pretty picked over, but we still ended up filling 2 bags of apples with these delicious pippin apples, which are dessert apples, so great for pies and cider!
Those little cut off overalls though, right?
Afterwards we headed out the back roads and stopped by Mom’s Pies in Wynola to grab a fresh apple crumb pie and some hand pressed apple cider!
