So the last few days I have been down and out and battling pneumonia! Fun right? Just another hurdle to jump over this summer… I didn’t even realize you could get pneumonia in the summer, my mom always used to threaten me with it in the winter when my hair was wet, or I had a tshirt on, but I had no idea whatsoever that you could get it in the heat. Go figure!
Luckily I am in pretty good tune with my body and I noticed something wasn’t right pretty quick. Over the past month I have been having random back and shoulder pain, and quite a bit of tiredness, but hey! I am a mom! Pain and fatigue is part of the job description! As the summer went on, I noticed it was getting worse and nothing I could do would cause much relief. I started to get worried that it might be much worse than I was letting on.
Last Saturday it got worse. I had to work for a few hours in the morning and noticed I had been coughing a lot that day, even though I was drinking a lot of water. I figured it was a combination of the dry weather, heat exhaustion, and general over worked mom syndrome.
That night while laying in bed, I took a deep breath and heard some crackling in my lungs. I had heard the same noises coming out of Audrey last summer when she had pneumonia, so I took it easy Sunday, and Monday morning went to Urgent Care. I tried to get a regular appointment but my doctor couldn’t see me and her nurse recommended heading into Urgent Care. I had to wear a mask and wait til my name was called.
I had a breathing treatment, chest x-rays and eventually left with a pneumonia diagnosis. Not fun.
I got an inhaler, a z-pack and some tessalon perles to help me navigate my new illness.
The first few days after my diagnosis were the worst, lots of uncontrolled coughing fits, and any sort of deep breath would turn me into a gasping monster, but I can say that on the last day of my z-pack, I was feeling almost 90% better.
The evenings are the worst, I get very tired, very quickly and often have quite a few coughing fits. Lots of fluids and rest have helped. I have the worst time taking time for me, actually resting and not worrying about dinner, or my family, but this last week I’ve had no choice. My husband has been decently helpful, and lets me nap during the afternoon to regain some of my strength.
It’s been a trying time to say the least, but I am now on the mend and feeling quite a bit better. I go back to work today after an entire week off, which was sort of nice and also insanely nerve wracking with restless kids at home.
So if the blog has seemed slow, or I haven’t been more normal self on Social Media.. this is why. And I thank you guys for your support and I want to tell you all how much it means to me. I’ve got all sorts of fun stuff coming up, and I feel like I can get back into the normal swing of things again!
