Have you ever been to Disneyland and seen those SUPER HUGE candy apples on Main Street? The ones just loaded with everything but the kitchen sink? I’ve always wanted to get one of those, but the hefty price tag and the knowledge that I would never be able to finish it have always kept me at my distance. Then I saw some giant apples at the grocery store the other day and got the most evilly awesome idea.
We’re big Disney fans over here in this house and when I saw the promos for the new Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, I was super excited. You see, I am a Disney nerd and having children has only added to that fact. I used to have to wait til things came out on DVD to watch them (I have adult Disney Fan secret shame), but now I can use the excuse that I am just “spending time with my kids” and I can enjoy my Disney fandom 24/7.
So I decided to create a fun play date with my kids! We grabbed some Disney’s Descendants swag at Walmart, the DVD, Soundtrack and some dolls.
When we got home we started making HUGE Poisoned Apples inspired by the ones at Disneyland, but with a much more evil twist. We were going to spend the whole day Disney’s Descendants style!
My kids LOVED the movie and have been rocking out to the soundtrack for the entire day. I knew they were going to need some energy after all that dancing, so I cut up some of the apples we made and called them over for a snack.
These apples are so easy to make. We used villainous colors like lime green and purple candy melts and drizzled them over the apples. Then we added some homemade salted caramel and topped them with crushed candy, nuts, cookie crumbs and sprinkles. If you use the really big apples and try not to go too overboard on the toppings, these aren’t too bad. None of us could finish ours, but it was really fun to customize them to exactly what we like.
Afterwards we took some much needed time to rest and play with the dolls. They are seriously the cutest little dolls and I love all the awesome details put into them. We grabbed Mal, daughter of Maleficent and Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen because they are our favorites, but they have a ton of dolls at Walmart if you’re a fan of the other characters more.
Sometimes the older one likes to play “too cool” but I was happy these dolls were just the perfect balance of cool and fun because she totally played along. The little one was ALL about these dolls. As Disney fans, we NEEDED these dolls.
I loved watching the girls get along and agree on something – if you’ve got daughters you probably understand my plight! One moment they are at each others throats and the next, they’re best friends. I’m glad that Disney can bring us altogether! Those apples weren’t half bad either!
