So it’s been about 3 months since I had my gallbladder surgery and my scars are healing nicely, I don’t have random attacks anymore and almost everything is totally back to normal except for you know, NOT having a gallbladder anymore. I can eat pretty much anything I want – though some of those foods do come with consequences, I’ve quickly learned that I can do a lot of things to help combat those consequences without making my life more difficult – which, for a busy mom on the run, is a must! Below, read my tips for how I am getting myself summer ready with my gallbaldder health!
Drink More Water
It always comes back to this, doesn’t it? Drink more water, you’ll lose weight, feel better, remain hydrated, and not be so tired along with so many other benefits of such a simple thing. I have to keep a big bottle with me all the time to remember to drink water, but it definitely helps me to have it with me or else I’d be grabbing a sugary drink at a check out line. It’s the simplest things that are so hard, isn’t it?
Eat More Fiber
Keeping my digestive system running the best it can helps the most with any and all of my tummy troubles. I’ve found that increasing my body’s fiber intake has really helped me out. So having a slice of high fiber bread about 10-20 minutes before any meal I think will be a trigger meal is a trick I’ve picked up. Also having larger portions of high fiber items (beans, veggies, etc) and staying away from things that are deep fried, have a ton of dairy, or are really rich foods like red meats. It doesn’t mean I can’t have those things, it just means I have to watch my portion sizes. It’s all about keeping your tummy happy and making your liver not have to work so hard!
Take Your Vitamins
I’ve also upped my daily routine with vitamins and supplements. I love love love the Olly Nutrition brand of vitamins and supplements – Olly is a brand new vitamin company launching exclusively at Target. They are super tasty and really high quality and I think my favorite part about them is that they are specific for anything you might need! I take 2 Simple Fiber, 1 Effortless Digestion and 2 The Perfect Women’s Multi every morning and I find that when I don’t take my Simply Fiber and my Effortless Digestion that I have more tummy issues than when I do.
I also really just love the packaging. I’m one of those people who is a sucker for cute packaging, which is why shopping at Target is so hard for me! I go in for my Olly’s and I leave with a Kimono, new stationary and a big floppy hat for the kiddo. Target strikes again!
I dunno, something about getting to eat gummis in the morning makes me look forward to actually taking my vitamins besides just choking down some horse sized old lady pills you always forget to take. You know what I mean? And because the rounded square bottles are pretty, they stay on my counter and not hidden out of sight – meaning I REMEMBER TO TAKE MY VITAMINS!
You know how many half full vitamin bottles I have under my sink? Too scared to toss, but clearly nothing I’d actually want to consume? I know you have them too.
The Perfect Women’s Vitamins are loaded with A,C, D, E, B’s, Biotin & Folic Acid. I’ve even noticed that my nails are A LOT stronger, my skin is looking nicer and my hair is growing like a weed! Which wasn’t the point for me, but hey! I’ll take it! I grabbed the Sassy Citrus flavor which includes, Key Lime, Lemon Ginger, and Ruby Red Grapefruit – and while I usually enjoy citus flavors – the Lemon Ginger is a BIT TOO MUCH ginger for me. So after my 45 day supply I will be trying the Blissful Berry flavors to see if I like those better.
Simply Fiber supplements are for digestive regularity – something us people without gallbladders really need! I love these gummis so much! They are a green apple flavor and you get 60, a 30 day supply. I always make sure that I take these in the morning because I feel like they work better when I do that.
Effortless Digestion is a Probiotic and Prebiotic, for intestinal health. The probiotics help keep everything running smoothly, and the prebiotic is sort of like food for the probiotic so it can do it’s job even better. These are my favorite from the entire bunch!
