My kids love cheese sticks.
Seriously, y’all. It’s a love that even I can’t deny them. Every time we get pizza or go out to eat, the question of cheese sticks comes up.
I don’t understand why cheese sticks always beat out pizza – I mean it’s pretty much the same thing, right? But the girls love them. And for a glorified cheese pizza, with sauce on the side, cheese sticks are not cheap. There is this restuarant near our house, and that is all Audrey will eat there, so I decided to make my own version of her favorite dish, with a flavorful, delicious, garlicky twist.
We’re huge garlic lovers around here. It’s pretty obvious if you see how many heads of garlic we go through in a month. We put garlic on everything. Potatoes, pizza, chicken, veggies, whatever way you split it, garlic is involved. And my kids LOVE IT.
They LOVE garlic. They fight over the garlic in pasta sauce and pot roast.
So I said, let’s make some Garlic Cheese Sticks for lunch today and they went crazy.
I used a homemade pizza dough that has been in the freezer for awhile – this pizza dough is LEGIT – it’s won some serious awards. And it freezes BEAUTIFULLY – so I make a HUGE batch and save it for later. It almost tastes better after it’s been made for awhile, it gets more of a sourdough kind of flavor. It’s delicious. I wanna say that it’s the same as using a store bough dough, but I’d be lying.
To make things easier, I used some Mezzetta Everything Spreads in Savory Garlic. Delicious. It’s great on everything, pasta, bruchetta, and especially these cheese sticks.
Then topped it off with some simple, shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake it, and it’s done in less than 10 minutes. You can dip it in just about anything, but jazzing up some marinara with the Sun Dried Tomato & Basil Everything Spread is legit.
Cheesy, garlicky, breadstick goodness. So good.
