We’ve got 2 bathrooms in our house. The one in the master bedroom, that no one sees, and the one that is “the girls” bathroom, in the hallway that everyone (including guests!) uses. Because it’s the main bathroom in the house and 2 kids under 10 use it daily, it gets messy really fast. There is hair everywhere, toothpaste in the sink, and wet towels and clothes on the floor – it’s a nightmare. Since Summer is coming up and we’re gonna be having some guests over soon, I decided to do a quick little “Bathroom Makeover” using just a few upcycled items around the house to make the bathroom look it’s best, with minimal effort!
The best thing about staying somewhere that isn’t your own house, like a hotel, are all the cool things to make your stay more comfortable so one of my favorite things to provide for guests is AMENITIES! I love to have extra toothbrushes on hand, fresh soaps, clean towels, and even products like toothpaste and deodorant. It’s nice to have on hand, in case someone forgot to pack it, or it got lost in luggage, or exploded on everything.
So because I knew I needed to get our guest bath in shape, I headed out to shop for some things. I went to Walmart to pick up a bunch of bathroom products, cotton swabs, cotton balls, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and mouthwash! I grabbed brands I currently use, because if our guests don’t use them, I can keep them as household inventory for when we run low.
I opted to pick Tom’s of Maine because I just really love their products – the Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry™ Fluoride Toothpaste is literally the ONLY toothpaste Abbey will use! Plus all their products are made with no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, or preservatives! It’s Earth Month and we try to choose better products for our lives and our planet when we can! I love that the deodorant is Unisex, so I can be prepared either way for whoever drops by to stay!
Because I am a bargain hunter, and literally cannot pass up a good deal, I had these cute little mercury glass containers I had got on markdown/clearance/sale at a craft store for like $2 each. I have been meaning to use them and they worked perfectly for this project! I also have this old antique platter/bowl thing that’s been up in a cupboard somewhere, so I pulled it down and polished it up! I want to give my new bathroom a pretty vintage feel, that’s welcoming, but not overly girlie.
So I started by cleaning up this mess first…. aye…. I gotta work with those girls a bit more about not being so messy!
After that I went to work on setting up a nice bathroom. I wanted to make sure I had clean hand towels and a wash cloth.
I set up all the Tom’s of Maine products in my newly polished silver bowl and filled my mercury glass containers with cotton swabs and cotton balls.
There is seriously nothing I hate more than needing something like that and not having it on hand. And I don’t particularly like going through, or having someone go through the bathroom cabinets and drawers.
I put out fresh soap – this is a great handmade one using California ingredients! So it’s extra fun for out of town guests! And of course, fluffy clean towels! And a little note that says HELLO! I love leaving little notes for guests, welcoming them, letting them know where everything is and if they need anything to ask. It’s just a really nice personal touch.
Another fun touch to add to an easy bathroom makeover are free printables! And you know how much I love making them, so here is a cute ombre printable to put in your new shiny bathroom!

So wanna see what the bathroom looked like AFTER I updated it and made it over? OK! So about an hour, and under $25….
Whatcha think!? I wish I had better lighting in this bathroom – but no natural light AT ALL! Ugh! It’s so much nicer, and cleaner, and it doesn’t look like a little kids bathroom anymore! It looks like a legitimate guest bathroom! It’s ready for guests!
