I buy milk a lot. Like seriously, a lot. With cooking, and drinking we go through a gallon almost every 3 days. Before kids, a gallon would last me a week or more, but now when I make the grocery list, or stop by the store on the way home the one million dollar question is always “Do we need milk?“
It seems sorta silly to buy that much milk, but honestly, it’s what my kids prefer to drink. On a hot day, water, sure, we don’t need to relive that scene from Anchorman, but all other times? Milk. And I don’t really mind because I know they are at least getting something from it. Calcium, nutrients, protein – important building blocks for their growth and well being. And I have to admit, a splash in my morning coffee is nice too.
I prefer how they act after drinking milk, rather than a juice or a sugary drink. They tend to go a little crazy when exposed to too much of that, and milk gives them a nice calming feeling. Abbey finds a lot of comfort having some milk before bed, and I think it’s cute to watch her get all snugly afterwards. I hope she creates fond memories of that and passes that on to her kids one day as well.
We got these fun stickers and wanted to try them out on our next glass of milk. Abbey is a bit of a jack of all trades, and I think she would make a fantastic boss lady one day.
I ask her a lot what she wants to be when she grows up and it runs the gamete from “shopper” to “princess” to “dancer”. She’s definitely a girlie girl, I can’t deny that one bit. Her favorite color is pink and she likes to wear her curly blonde hair down and not in a pony tail.
But I try to steer her towards knowing that she can be anything she wants to be, and as long as she’s strong and healthy, she will get to. Whether it be CEO, Dancer, Princess or Mom! Having milk in her diet insures that she will be strong and healthy, and that gives me peace of mind.
Right now, her favorite activity is Dance. We go to class once a week, and she takes tap and ballet. I love that milk gives her what she needs before class and fuels her little body all morning! Check out that sweet face! If she wants to be a Tony Award winning Broadway Star, who am I to shut her down?
What are your favorite ways to drink milk? What do your little ones want to be when they grow up?
