The holidays are in our midst. In fact, not to freak you out or anything, but Christmas is in one week. Yikes. I am so not ready. I have lists of shopping left to do, gifts to buy, food to make, desserts to prepare and even a party to attend. It’s going to be a lot of cram into 7 days, but I’ve got it down… I hope. For those of you, like me, in the same boat of stressed out, too much to do and not enough time to do it, let me help you out. I’ve got a delicious cocktail recipe for your holiday party that will knock your socks off. It’s tart, sweet, tangy, delicious and super easy to make. It’s my festive take on the classic Moscow Mule, and if you’ve never had one, you need to because, delicious. Try it with Reed’s Ginger Brew for a nice kick!
Traditionally a Moscow Mule is made with vodka, lime and ginger beer, the stronger the better, sometime you might find a sprig of mint, other times maybe not. It’s served up in a Collins glass, or even better a copper mug. It’s been around since the 40’s. My take involves some cranberry juice and adds a lovely tart flavor to the classic drink.
I like to use a copper mug, because it helps keep the drink super cold and refreshing, plus it’s just sort of awesome (and was an insanely cool marketing trick back when the drink was first invented!), but if you don’t own a copper mug, you can definitely use any sort of highball or Collins glass instead.
- Half a lime
- 2 oz vodka
- 4 oz Reed’s Ginger Brew
- 2 oz Cranberry Juice
- Sprig of Mint as garnish (Optional)
- Wedge of Lime as Garnish (Optional)
Fill a copper mug with ice, and squeeze 1/2 a lime into the mug. Add vodka and Reed’s Ginger Brew and top with Cranberry Juice. Add mint for garnish.
It’s honestly that easy!
Other festive variations include;
- Cider Mule – Omitting cranberry juice for apple cider
- Salted Mule – Omitting Plain Vodka for Salted Caramel Vodka
- Virgin Mule – Omitting Vodka for Lemon Lime soda, or additional juices
- Moscow Mule – Omitting Cranberry for additional Ginger Beer
I like to use Reed’s Ginger Brew because of it’s strong and intense ginger flavor. It’s super refreshing and delicious in this drink, and it really makes the flavors pop.
