Halloween is right around the corner, and if you’re still stumped for ideas on what to be for the night, why not take a page out of my book and become a fish out of water for the night as a stunning mermaid!? My kids and I always do theme costumes each year because it is so fun to dress up as a big group! This year, we chose mermaids because, well do you really need a reason to be a mermaid for the evening? Read on for the tutorial!
I know that lots of makeup will be involved on Halloween, and my girls will be dolled up too (it’s one of the only times I let them wear it!) so we are going to need some makeup wipes that will help us get the job done at the end of the night. This tutorial involves a lot of shimmer, glitter, and glue, so I am trusting my Neutrogena Cleansing towelettes help me out.
You will first need to prep and prime your skin with your favorite products. I used toner, hydrating serum and a primer to prep my skin for my foundation. Because we’re doing a mermaid look, and I assume mermaids have dewy glowing skin, make sure to add a bit of a highlighter into your foundation before applying. I used my new airbrush machine because I have been dying to try it out. Anything shimmery is fine.
Once you’ve got your canvas ready, lightly contour your skin using a shimmery bronzer along the jawline, in the hollows of the cheeks and on the forehead. Prime your eyes for shadow, you will be using highly pigmented colors so priming will ensure your shadow stays on all night, no matter what Halloween might throw at you.
Starting with the lightest color, I used Morphe shadow in 80 (a Tiffany blue color), sweep it across your lid using a big fluffy brush like the Sigma E35. Next, on top of the last shadow, using the same brush, use Morphe shadow in 37 (a light teal color) and sweep it across, in windshield wiper motions from inner corner to outer corner. Concentrating on the outer corner of the eye, and using a smaller brush like Sigma E25, pack on the shade Envy by Makeup Geek (a dark green with a hint of shimmer). Once the shadow is nicely packed into the corner blend it inward to the inner corner without adding any additional product. Blend! Add some Too Faced Glitter Glue Primer to the lid and then using a MAC 239 brush, and a spritz of MAC Fix+, pack the shade Mermaid by Makeup Geek (an iridescent blue green color) all over the lid. Using a flat definer brush like the Morphe B30 brush, pack the same Mermaid color along your lower lash line and blend out with a pencil brush.
Because I am planning on wearing a purple wig, I sculpted my brows using Younique Pigment in Regal and some MAC Fix+ on a flat definer brush.
Using a fluffy blush brush, dust some iridescent sparkle on your cheeks and up into your eyebrows. Apply mascara and if you wish, put on false lashes.
Next, using lash glue, add some dots to your face, and apply sequins, glitter, gems, or shells. Make sure you get the kind of glue that dries clear! I use Kiss 24 hour lash glue! It holds amazingly well.
Add a dark lipstick, I am using Black Dahlia Lip Tap from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. If you prefer a lighter lip, by all means, wear what makes you feel most comfortable. I was going for dramatic.
And you’re done! All you need now is some mermaid hair! Curl your own hair using a curling wand, or go the easy route with a colorful wig.
To make my life easier, I use Neutrogena Cleansing towelettes to get all this makeup off at the end of the night. It’s pretty insane, but it only took me 3 wipes and about 5 minutes to get all of the makeup off my face! Pretty much no excuse why you would be heading to bed looking like a mermaid after a night of tricks and treats.
I made sure to head down to Walmart and stock up because I knew we would be using a ton of these Cleansing towelettes for all the parties and events we have this month.
Check out how easy this makeup wiped off! Ahh! Amazing. I seriously love these, and if you’re planning on having any elaborate makeup for Halloween, I recommend 100% to go grab some before the big night!
