With the release of Captain America 2 : The Winter Soldier last week (it dropped September 9th!), I got inspired to make some delicious treats for all the geek girls viewing parties that will definitely be happening, because Chris Evans. Actually this cookie bark is SUPER EASY to make and can totally be tweaked to match any event, season, party or theme. I love M&M’s for this bark, because they literally come in every color you would ever imagine. It makes a great party snack option, and even an adorable and fantastic homemade gift for the holidays! Seriously, so fun, cute, tasty and affordable. I always get so much “WOW! Factor” when I have a plate or bowl of bark at our parties and get togethers because it looks about 100 times harder than it actually is. If you’ve never attempted to make a candy bark, please read on, I break it down pretty simple (see what I did there??!).
Head down to Walmart and grab everything you’ll need; a bag of M&M’s, a bag of white chocolate chips (or similar candy melts), bark mix-ins – I used some GF chocolate chip cookies, some red, white and blue sprinkles I had leftover from July, but other great mix-ins can include pretzels, cookies, nuts, candies or sprinkles. Barks are so fun, because you can really change it up to suit your own tastes.
Start my melting your chocolate chips or candy melts in a double boiler over simmering water. Stir occasionally to help them melt smoothly… if you do by chance scorch the melts (they will kind of clump together verses being smooth) just add a bit of coconut oil, or vegetable shortening and stir until smooth. Make sure you use something that has a solid state when cooled, verses an oil or your bark will never set up.
While that melts, separate the M&M’s into the colors you want to use (I did red and blue), chop up your ingredients if needed, and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Once the melts are smooth, pour onto the cookie sheet, and sprinkle with your mix-in ingredients. Lightly press them into the melted chocolate and set aside to cool.
If it’s an especially warm day (like here in the 100’s!), stick the cookie sheet into the fridge or freezer to help harden and set the bark. Once it’s very cold, snap it into pieces and serve!
Easy right?! I bet right now you’re thinking about pinning this to your party planning board (Go ahead, I’ll wait) because it’s like they prettiest, easiest, cutest thing ever. Head over to Walmart.com to grab a money saving coupon and save $5 when you buy M&M’s and Captain America 2 : The Winter Solider!
Don’t forget to swing by the Social Hub, to take some fun quizzes, check out some more recipes, and enter to win a $100 Walmart Gift Card! I took the Superhero quiz and got…. THOR! Which totally fits because I am from Norse decent and he was our High School mascot too! Boom!
