In following with the theme of the week, today I am going to be focusing on keeping your hair and skin healthy in the summer months. Summer beauty is a huge thing, the weather is warmer, and can lead to our skin and hair not getting the TLC it needs. We’re in and out of pools, oceans, lakes, and rivers. Our skin is in the damaging sun all day. We tend to forget about keeping up with it. So I have a few easy tips and tricks to keep you looking gorgeous as we hit the hottest part of the year! Listen up!I have been doing hair for about 14 years now… I know a lot of ins and outs and beauty secrets. I always tell my clients that when summer hits, they are going to need to do a little more to keep their hair looking good, soft and frizz free. Hair is ALWAYS frizzy and dry in summer. The weather goes from dry to hot and sticky and your hair is super confused. You need to use a good deep conditioner at least once a week if you’re dipping your toes in super chlorinated pools. The varying levels of pH will throw your hair’s natural balance WAY off track, leaving it looking frizzy and dull.
Grabbing a nourishing deep treatment and leaving it on for a few hours once a week for an easy at home deep conditioning treatment is a great way to keep your tresses looking nice between salon visits. Following it up with super hydrating shampoo and conditioner will help keep your hair looking soft and silky, even in humidity. The more hydration in your hair, the less likely the humidity from the air will affect it. Try SheaMoisture Deep Treatment Masque, available at Walgreens.
For an easy day to night look, try using a curling wand to create easy, beachy mermaid waves. On dry hair, apply a leave in shine serum and separate into sections.
Wrapping hair around the wand in a twisting motion will give you a gorgeous wave pattern, verses a tight ringlet. Curl the entire head, before shaking out with your fingers and lightly spritzing your hair with a texture spray like Organix Moroccan Sea Salt Spray.
BAM! For the evening, twist your mermaid waves into a large messy knot, and secure with bobby pins.
Spray hair into place using Mark Hill Gorgeous! Fabulous Finish Spray, available at Walgreens in the hair care aisle.
For beautiful summer skin, skip the tanning beds, and laying out and opt for a much healthier fake tan. Prep skin with a sugar scrub, like SheaMoisture Hand & Body Scrub. Exfoliating before self tanning will eliminate that scaly effect you get around your knees, and elbows. Moisturize beforehand so your skin is ready and the self tanner will apply evenly every time.
Make sure when you’re outside in the sun to always wear sunscreen! Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen is the perfect option for those who don’t like the heavy feeling of traditional sunscreens. This product is much more like a lotion, and glides on the skin smooth and even. Plus it’s 30SPF, broad spectrum and water resistant up to 80 minutes! And it smells AMAZING!
Right now, if you purchase at least $20 of personal care products (excluding baby stuff), you will get a FREE travel-size make-up brush set as a gift! How awesome is that?
