It seems as if lately this blog has taken on a life of it’s own and my down to earth personal voice has sort of been lost inside my job. On one hand I am so excited that my blog is becoming a part time job and I am making some decent money, but I also get bummed that it’s not the same as it was in the very beginning, before people were paying me for my creativity and my unique consumer voice.
I try to only share products that my family actually uses – presently, or previously – and stuff that I really believe in, but sometimes I feel that the whole “for profit blogger” comes out more than that “mom on a mission blogger” as of late. I mean, I get it, this is my job, I have to do this, but I want to also reflect on the behind the blog portion of our lives too.
Ya know, just in case you cared.
So, I think when the house gets quiet, and my brain gets loud, it will be time to reflect on what we’ve been up to lately, and share it with all of you guys. You’re the reason I am still here, after all. You’re the reason this blog ever became anything, so I wholeheartedly thank each and every one of you (and you should leave me a comment after reading, so I know you exist too!)
So here’s what we’ve been up to lately…
After years and year and years of me unsuccessfully trying to teach Audrey to swim – mostly in part to the fact that I am NOT a swim teacher and also because I am in fact her step mom, so she naturally chooses to not listen to me anyway – I decided to enroll her and her little sister into swim lessons. Private swim lessons. The kind where even when you know the lady and she’s giving you a deal because she used to date your dad back in high school, it’s still a decently sized chunk of change each week. Yeah those kind. So every Monday afternoon, we trek down the hill, 15 miles away to swim for 30 minutes each in a private lesson. 4 years of me saying “SWIM! SWIM AUDREY! I KNOW YOU CAN!” to no avail, 4 minutes with Coach Linda and she’s literally diving through underwater hoops. The little one, not so much. She’s WAAAAYY more interested in all the fun diving toys and floaties. And Coach Linda’s cat who shows up periodically during the lessons. My wish for them is by summer I won’t have to blow up anymore arm floaties, or carry the 2 year old around in the pool and that they will leave the steps and just be normal swimming kids. Wish us luck.
The other thing we’ve been doing a lot of lately was going to the fair. The San Diego County Fair (better known to the locals as “The Del Mar Fair”) was all last month and ended last Sunday. We went 4 times. Which, is a lot, for the fair. I think my sister went like 7 times or something crazy like that. It was a great waste of time and now that we have Audrey every other week for the entire summer, I needed as many time wasting activities as possible. Last year we skipped the fair, Abbey was only 1 1/2 and I was sort of worried just about the volume of people and it all just being too much for her. She loved it this year. She loved all the rides and games and even won a few prizes, including a GIANT pink flamingo that she named “Flamingo Starr” and also calls it “Pink Submarine”. She won it right after seeing The Fab Four, an AMAZING Beatles tribute band, the girls first concert ever.
It’s sort of crazy to me, that even though I am a blogger in San Diego, I am not much of a San Diego Blogger. I should try more actively to change that. There are so many great things to do around here, and we really do a lot of them. We even went and checked out the San Diego Zoo Nights the other evening. It was a TON of fun and all of the animals were out and about. The lion even sprayed his musk all over some unsuspecting tourists with bright flash photography. So that was awesome (and funny).
So the past 2 weeks have both been packed to the brim and also flown by. I anticipate the next 2 weeks being just as full of activities and adventures for the Blevins Family.
What have you been up to lately?
