Lately I have been OBSESSED with Cricut’s Iron On Glitter Vinyl! I used it a few weeks ago to fix a shirt my husband ruined, and I have been in love with how easy and fun it is ever since! Who knew that $15 could bring so much joy and updated fashion to my wardrobe? Anyway, this week I have a fun little summer update for anything you might have laying around that needs a quick pick-me-up! A DIY Nautical Anchor Tank Top! I had a neon striped tank laying around, so I went with a nautical theme, but honestly you could use whatever you wanted, however you wanted! For the purpose of today’s tutorial I am going to stick with my cute anchor, but only your imagination is your limit. Gather all your items. Personally, I don’t have an anchor clip art for my Cricut, so I cut one out by hand, but if you’ve got an image in mind, by all means, use your cutting machine (it will save you about 15 minutes!) I looked online for a large image of a clip art anchor, and once I found the one I liked, traced it onto a piece of white computer paper, you can also use tracing paper. I tweaked the image a bit (since I wanted it slightly bigger) then cut it out and traced it onto the top plastic protective layer of my iron on vinyl.
Carefully cut it out of the vinyl (or skip this all using your machine) and place it on your garment where you want it to go. Following the package directions on the vinyl, iron your garment to prep it for application, and then place the vinyl down. Iron it, using the hottest setting, running it over it several times to ensure it is applied properly. I used a Sharpie marker and noticed some smearing on my plastic. If this happens to you, just be careful not to smear the marker onto your clothing! Flip your garment inside out and run the hot iron over the vinyl again, inside out. Let the vinyl cool for about 5 minutes and then carefully peel off the protective coating. You’re all done! How easy was that? It’s so easy to do, and can be done in a variety of ways using a multitude of mediums. I think it would look adorable on a kids skirt, or even on a tote bag. The possibilities are endless! And it comes in lots of colors! What will you make with Iron on Glitter Vinyl?
