I belong to a tribe. The over worked, under paid, tired mommies tribe. We’re a proud people, but we secretly yearn for the time of day, somewhere between “When’s lunch?” and “I want a snack!”. We call it “Nap Time”, and it is a very scared and joyous time. In a perfect world, it would be a time to sit, relax, enjoy a glass of iced Bigelow Tea, and recharge for the next wave.
Most of the time it’s when we straighten up the living room, start a load of laundry, finish the dishes from earlier or catch up on those DVR’d shows that somehow always get taped, but rarely get watched, as we fold yesterdays laundry after one more quick trip around on the “wrinkle free” cycle. You know… what the “house elves” take care of…
I sometimes wonder how the ice gets made in our house. Every time I go to add some to my glass, the tray is empty, the ice container is empty, and my husband seems to be enjoying a cold frosty beverage. I always ask him if the “Ice Fairy” forgot to come and fill the trays again…
Regardless, this scared time of our day that we call “Nap Time”, is pretty much the ONLY bit of quiet time we will get at all, the entire day. So I wonder why we ruin it with chores? Those chores will ALWAYS be there, and with small children running around, it’s like filling a colander with sand… constantly picking up, wiping, cleaning, putting away, sweeping, mopping… you get it.
I propose we turn this “Nap Time” into a new time… “Mom’s Time Out”.
Put down the mop, pick up a glass…
Ok not THAT kind of glass, let’s be responsible here! I’m talking about a glass of perfectly iced sun tea, freshly brewed in the sunny spot on your porch.
The next time you’re out and about, swing by your local Walmart Supercenter, and pick up a box or two of Bigelow Tea.
They are located in the Coffee and Tea aisle of the store.
Bigelow is an American, family owned company that is known for their high quality teas. Their tea bags come in foiled lined pouches so it seals in the flavor and freshness and locks out air and moisture, so your tea stays fresher longer!
In my pitcher I have 2 bags of Bigelow Tea Pomegranate Pizzazz and 2 bags of Bigelow Tea I Love Lemon herbal teas. Place them in a large pitcher filled with cool water, and stick in a sunny spot for about 30 minutes to an hour. I like to do this roughly an hour or so before
Nap Time Mom’s Time Out, that way it’s ready in time for me to relax.
Soon, you’ll notice the water start to turn a beautiful hue of pink!
Shuffle the children off to bed, and get your Tea Party for one ready, or invite the neighbor over for a glass and gabfest.
Some snacks, fresh fruit, cookies, even
stolen borrowed Easter candy will do! It’s about the tiny victories, mom.
If you like sweet tea (I’ve lived in the south ladies, I get it!) by all means, add some sugar, honey, agave, whatever your little heart desires! This combination of teas that I chose is naturally sort of sweet on it’s own. Not at all bitter or harsh, with beautiful little undertones of fruit.
If you want to get extra fancy, make tea “sangria” by adding some fresh cut fruit chunks to your glass! I garnished mine with a lime wedge, strawberry and spring of fresh mint from my garden! I knew that little container garden would come in handy!
Plus who can resist mason jars and paper straws?
The assorted herbal tea pack comes with 7 different flavors for you to cocktail together to make your own Mommy Time Out as unique as you are!
I think Cozy Chamomile with Mint Medley would be lovely as well! Soothing, crisp and relaxing. Add some fresh muddled mint for an extra pick me up! I Love Lemon would also be great with the Mint Medley!
And for those cooler days or nights, a warm mug of Bigelow Tea Spiced Chai with some sugar and a splash of milk would be just wonderful! It’s even a great idea, if you love chai, to make a tea concentrate to keep on hand for any sort of iced chai latte you might be craving! Much healthier than the store bought options that are loaded with sugar!
What’s your favorite flavor of Bigelow Tea?
