Spring is coming!
Isn’t that great! I love spring, after a long winter. Sadly around here, it hasn’t been even the tiniest bit wintery.
But amid all my non-winter woes, I still love spring. All the colors and flowers and flowing dresses in bright pastels! So I decided that I needed some extra pretty to wear in my hair, and a regular old bow or headband wasn’t going to suffice.
Enter, the DIY Flower Crown.
Wearing this crown makes me feel like a cross between a hippie flower child from the Sixties, and a Disney Princess. So naturally, I wear it everywhere. I did actually wear it to work and my coworkers called me a hippie and said I was adorable, so I’ll take it. I don’t care if I am in my 30’s, I love this crown.
It’s super simple to make and it’s even easier to customize for your littles! I made Abbey one too, but she throws it around like a Frisbee.
All you need are some super simple supplies and you can get at any craft store (and even Dollar Tree!)
- Floral Wire
- Floral Tape
- Spring Silk Flowers (I used the leftovers from my DIY Spring Wreath tutorial!)
- Wire Cutters/Pliers
No glue involved! So it’s a perfect craft for kids who have decent motor skills! Maybe even a fun activity at a birthday party!
Start my measuring your head with the floral wire. Make sure you give yourself a couple extra inches on each side so you can twist the wire together, to hold it in place.
Use your wire cutters to snip the wire and twist the crown together in a circle shape.
Start right over the wire overlapping area and begin to wrap the floral tape tightly around the wire.
After a few inches, add a flower. I find it’s easier if you have a bit of “stem” left on the flower. It helps stay in much better, verses just using the flower part. Place your flower against the wire, and start to wrap the tape over the stem, incorporating it into the flower crown.
Every inch or so, add another flower.
If it’s easier for you, add flowers and go around again, with more floral tape to fill in the gaps. Make sure to add some greenery too!
And you’re done! Easy, right?
A perfect little accessory for spring! Darling and dainty and beautiful. I love mine! If it were OK to wear it in public 24/7 I would. I wore it to Walmart, and I was getting funny looks… Loud and Proud, folks!
Would you wear a flower crown out in public? Or just in photos? Are you as
crazy brave as me?
