Spring is almost here, and in every makeup display I’m seeing some similar themes. NUDES!
I love nude tones! I am seeing all sorts of gorgeous peaches, corals, roses and gold toned nudes with hints of baby pastels! Hallelujah! I’m so over dark, winter, bold gem hues. I’m ready for the spring awakening!
Spring is BY FAR my favorite time of year for new makeup. I am definitely not one for bright loud colors and poppy lips. I am totally OK with fresh clean faces with hints of golden shimmer. Bring it on!
I have a few favorites that I seriously can’t live without, some are splurges and some are huge saves! I want to share with you what colors and products I will be using this season, and in a couple days I will also post a makeup tutorial using these products for spring. I’ll try to show you products in all price ranges so you can pick and choose accordingly depending on your budget and level of thriftiness.
You are going to need a new eyeshadow palette. I have 3 which I love right now…
The Wet-N-Wild Walking on Eggshells Trio is a steal! It’s the perfect palette for a simple everyday smokey nude eye, and it’s literally $3. In fact, it’s a pretty decent dupe of my other favorite trio…
The Benefit Peek-A-Bright Eyes Palette! At $32 it’s not quite a splurge, but definitely not a steal either. It also comes with a small tub of their awesome Eye Bright, to give your inner and outer corners a pop of brightness. I use this on so many brides, including myself and my entire wedding party! Go figure! Love it!
My favorite splurge right now is…
The Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. True Love! At $52, it can be a splurge, but it’s got 12 shadows and an amazing dual ended brush, which kind of makes this a steal.
The colors are gorgeous, all beautiful pinky, rosey, gold tones, perfect for the trends this spring. Definitely a favorite.
For perfect pinched rosey pink cheeks, I offer you…
I don’t care what anyone thinks, I love ELF blush. Love love love. It’s a gigantic steal for only $3 a pop, and they have so many great colors. My favorites for spring are Twinkle Pink, a pretty pink with gold fleck shimmer, and Candid Coral, a warm golden coral peach. Hervana by Benefit is an amazing blush too. I love the design and how great the colors blend together to compliment every skin tone, at $28 it’s my blush splurge.
I love eye primer, it helps keep your shadow from creasing, and also really helps make the color POP! I like to sometimes use a cream eyeshadow as a primer base, I’m crazy like that. Some great creamy nude color bases for Spring are…
Not only are these great on the lid, but they are also great for under brow bone highlighters. Dual duty products are my favorite.
I am not one for really made up or sticky lips, and since nudes are the focus, I’m gonna go really nude with sheer lipstick and glosses.
Let’s talk a quick sec about your skin. After the cold and harsh Winter months you’re going to need to be caring for your skin a little bit more than normal. Moisture is your friend! Especially you oily skinned gals! Here’s the thing… if you aren’t giving your skin the moisture it needs, it’s going to produce it’s own in the form of oil. Not moisturizing your skin for fear of MORE OIL is a myth. The more you feed your skin, the less oil it will produce. You won’t see results overnight, but stick with it and you will. Dry skinned gals, you’re gonna need a little extra moisture, so make sure you’re really taking care to not use anything that’s too drying and stick with products with natural oils to help replenish your thirsty skin.
I love the Olay Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture, and at around $10 you can’t beat it! It’s very silky and smooth and doesn’t feel at all heavy or greasy. I use the Meaningful Beauty Creme de Serum under my moisturizer. It’s the first thing I put on… gotta keep my skin looking youthful and healthy! I love it! It makes my skin feel insanely nice. As I get older, I notice my eyes have been getting laugh lines and dark circles. Super bummer for me… I use the Skin Medica TNS Eye Repair… and a little… a mean a tiny bit, really… goes a very long way! So don’t be discouraged by the price tag, the stuff is fantastic.
The Baby Skin is a brand new product, supposed to be a dupe for The Porefessional by Benefit. It’s very similar to Smashbox primer and I LOVE IT! My skin felt so soft and smooth and hydrated all day and I only added a bit around my nose and cheeks to try it out. I can not image how amazing my skin will feel when I actually use it on my whole face. Plus it helped my foundation stay put really well, despite still being silky.
The foundation I am using right now is L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation. It’s got 18 SPF, so if you’re only going to be inside all day, you’ll be fine. If you plan on being outside for longer than 30 minutes, make sure you apply a facial sunscreen before applying makeup, and after applying moisturizer.
I absolutely love this foundation! It’s great for Spring and Summer because it is so thin and natural looking. You literally feel like you’re wearing nothing on your face! I love that. It’s breathable, and dries with a soft powdery matte finish. It’s perfect for creating nude looks, because it, itself is so nude. A must have at only $13, and I hear it’s a great dupe for the Armani foundation… but I’ve never tried it.
Last, but not least… just my normal daily favorites that I use year round.
The Super Slim Liquid Liner, I believe, is the best and easiest thing to use for those cat eye liners everyone has been wearing. It’s very simple to use, has a felt tip, like a marker, and with a bit of fiddling and getting use to it, you can do a cat eye in 30 seconds.
Gimme Brow by Benefit is a fantastic product. It’s like a tiny mascara wand for eyebrows! The formula actually contains small fibers to fill in splotchy brows and make them look more natural and less “penciled in” which makes this product perfect for the effortlessness of a “nude face”.
Mascara is one of my favorite products. I probably own 15 tubes of it. I’ve tried it all… and for a natural, not clumpy look, my favorites are Benefit They’re Real and L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes. Both formulas coat the lashes and lenghten, while making your natural lashes just look “natural”. I can’t even tell you how many times people have asked me if I am wearing false lashes because they look so perfect and too good to be true.
***The only thing pictured that I didn’t review is the Stardust shadow (The black container with the “M” on it) by The Makeup Store, a European company. My mom got it for me the last time she was in Denmark, I always ask for makeup when people go overseas, especially since it’s hard to find, or not available in the states. Since it is hard to find, I just omitted it from my review, but it’s a beautiful nude shimmer, and if I can find an easy to find dupe of it (or if you know of one!) I’ll let you know in a future post.***
